My first thought was 'fire ants' but I didn't know if they live in northwest Missouri. I kept smashing them and Sully kept pointing them out. I didn't know if I should let him in the sand, but that wasn't much of a problem as he wasn't going anywhere near it as long as he could see any of those ants. I called David Smith and described them to him. He conferred with his brother and said they were chiggers. OK. Guess we won't get in the sand.
Sully and I went to Price Chopper to buy some Insect Repellent. He grabbed right on to that term and talked about the Insect Repellent off and on the rest of the evening. While we were at the store I asked him if he wanted to buy a do-nut for breakfast tomorrow and, of course, he did. He picked out one with sprinkles and we paid and headed home. He wanted to eat the do-nut in the car, but I was able to fend him off.
Once we were home, I use the Off Wipes on his arms and legs and waistband, then sprayed the sides of the sandbox. Within seconds, I could see little tiny red dots on the concrete heading away from the sandbox! Sully got in and play for about 30 minutes and decided he wanted to take a bath. Then he wanted the do-nut. I couldn't convince him it was for tomorrow and gave in and let him have it for a bedtime snack.
Actually, he only picked the sprinkles off and left the do-nut, which I microwaved and had for MY bedtime snack on Saturday! It was pretty good.
